Before moving to Portugal, I had never heard the Sahara speak.
Each year, vast winds rise from the desert—ancient, powerful, heavy with red dust—and travel across oceans and borders, carried by unseen currents and distant storms. They arrive quietly, settling on rooftops, streets, and windowsills, turning the world a muted rust.
It can feel intrusive, even inconvenient. Yet within that dust lies a gift: minerals that nourish the soil, remnants of a faraway land sustaining another. This painting is an attempt to hold that moment—the beauty hidden inside disruption, and the quiet generosity of a wind that has crossed a continent to be here.
