Who am I?

I am an American artist who relocated to Portugal in 2020. My work explores the dichotomies that shape my life and practice—precision and spontaneity, control and discovery, surface and depth.

My landscapes range from carefully measured beach scenes to abstracted environments that evoke emotion rather than place. Through sanding back layers of paint, I reveal hidden textures and quiet histories beneath the surface, inviting viewers to look beyond what is immediately visible.

Strong women are a recurring presence in my work, often painted on canvas and wood panel. These long-necked figures meet the viewer’s gaze directly—confident, unapologetic, and fully present.

Not all of my work is serious. I often begin my day creating wacky, whimsical figures where collage, ink, and acrylic paint collide. These playful works frequently contain hidden messages, visual wordplay, or double entendres—small surprises tucked in plain sight.

I live and work in Vila Real de Santo António with my wife, Denise, and our dog, Onix.
