On a large canvas, I build layers of acrylic ink and paint—orange, yellow, turquoise, red—each one seeping into the next. Slowly, her face begins to emerge, shaped with paint and ink. Strong blocks of color define the angles of her features. Her face fills the canvas, commanding attention. Her red lips invite the viewer in, bold and unflinching.
