Perhaps it is because seventy now recedes in the rearview mirror. Perhaps it is because the face of someone once beloved refuses to come into focus. Whatever the cause, the slow erosion of the mind haunts me. This painting belongs to a series born of that fear—an attempt to give shape to what slips away, and to hold, for a moment longer, what time insists on loosening.
