Fishermen's Huts
My morning walks begin where the Guadiana River meets the Atlantic. Moving west along the waterline, a remarkable scene unfolds. With no marina in Monte Gordo, fishing boats are hauled directly onto the sand by tractor. The fishermen carry their morning catch to small, unadorned huts that punctuate the coastline. A decade ago, it was still possible to buy fish directly from the fishermen; today, the exchange passes through a middleman.
